Rich Joy is the founder of Malt-matters.com, which provides consulting, advisory, and educational services to the malting, brewing, and distilling industries.  A highly accomplished executive and academic with over 20 years of extensive lab and research experience and expertise in both domestic and international malting & brewing markets.  

Rich is highly focused on quality and innovation, having implemented or overseen successful projects in process efficiency increases, fermentation troubleshooting, resolution of brewery haze and lautering issues, varietal optimization, and execution of North American sustainability programs.

With a B.Sc. in microbiology and a Ph.D. in Developmental Plant Physiology, Rich is well equipped to take on cross-functional projects that have enhanced better understanding of the connections amongst breeding, farming, malting and brewing. 

Having grown up in Calgary, Rich is a true Albertan and enjoys hanging with his wife and grade 12 twin phenoms as well as debating craft beer trends.
